Our February College Partnership meeting featured Mary Paramore and Elizabeth Brooks with Hyster-Yale Group in Greenville, who shared some of the great opportunities they offer for students and for employees. Along with other employers, they predict a crisis within 5-10 years for skilled positions. To prepare for this shortage, they are working towards apprenticeship options. Elizabeth stressed the need for a thorough understanding of Microsoft Excel, as well as basic analytical and other skills. For Fleet Service Specialist, an entry level position, pay can start as high as $53,000/yr.
Jennie Bowen, Region Q WDB Director, updated us on RAMP-East (see slides in PPT). Jennie reported that they are working on the website and video, and have debuted the new logo. She also discussed Finish Line Grants (see slides in PPT). Christy re-introduced herself in her new role as RAMP East Recruiter for Region Q.
We heard from Will Prettyman at NCBioNetwork who shared many of the amazing opportunities they offer for students, teachers and others. Find his slides and contact information in the PPT. Check out this great Job Interviewing game on their website. You can even print a certificate of completion!
Laurie Weston with Pitt CC Transitional Studies introduced us to Aunt Bertha. The Community College system will soon be sharing this statewide. Programs and organizations are encouraged to search Aunt Bertha and update or create a listing. You can sign up with Aunt Bertha to view webinars and even receive a button to connect users to Aunt Bertha through your website.
“Aunt Bertha lists free and reduced cost direct social services and makes it easy to connect to them. From parents struggling with rising rent in big cities, to family members caring for aging parents in rural locations, to school teachers and Fortune 50 healthcare employees dealing with overwhelming caseloads for their students and patients, our platform makes it easy for people to get the help they need all day, every day.”
